Version 3.11 Available.

April 15, 2000
Version 3.0 Available.

VEWD version 3.0 is available to support exam sessions starting April 15, 2000.

    Existing issues include
  1. NCVEC form 605 and CSCE printing does not support the post 04/15/2000 forms.
  2. VED file generation is still for Version 2.2 data. It should not really be used.
  3. There is no support for VEWD FCC database lookup from VEWDFCC generated data. The new ULS format is quite different. QRZ CDROM lookups should still work.
  4. The documentation still relects Version 2.2 and has not been updated to reflect the changed displays and operations from the restructuring. The main changes are :
    1. Support for the post restructuring rules
    2. Removal of obsolete FCC format data generation
    3. Conversion to 4 digit year fields (except in element status fields)
    4. New Candidate roster and Test Session Summary forms. Specific changes due to restructuring include:
      1. One code element (1) and 3 written (2, 3, 4) elements
      2. Novice and Advanced licenses are not allowed as upgrades. Note that VEWD still distinguishes between Technician and Technician Plus in it's database, but the Test session summary combines the two into the single FCC technician class.
      3. A fee is expected for all elements.

A conversion program is available to convert version 2.4 database files to the 3.0 format. Care should be taken during until 4/15/2001 since the reduction in the number elements coupled with the desire to maintain as much information in the database as possible results in potential mis-identification of an upgrade. This is because old Element 2 and 4A status is lost in the conversion.

For example, a general who took element element 4B prior to 4/15/2000 but not element 4A would show as an upgrade to Extra after 4/15/2000. The same situation would exist if there was a 4A credit that expired before the 4B credit expired. Be sure to verify that all required credits exist.

        Version 2.4 Available.

VEWD version 2.4 is available to support exam sessions until April 15, 2000. It is being released not fully functional. Specifically the two items not inplemented are:

        1. The Display-6XX function still displays the data on the screen in a FCC-610 format. The TIN is displayed in the upper right. Printing of either NCVEC-605 or FCC-610 is supported.
        2. VED file generation is still for Version 2.2 data. It should still generate and load session and candidate data (although it's not been tested) but any TIN data will be lost.
        3. There is no support for VEWD FCC database lookup from VEWDFCC generated data. The new ULS format is quite different. QRZ CDROM lookups should still work. The main changes are :
          1. Y2K support dates (Mainly CSCE dates in the element status field)
          2. Support for printing form NCVEC-605s
          3. Support for the ULS mandated TIN instead of DOB

A conversion program is available to convert your version 2.2 database files to the 2.4 format (required to include TIN).

Any questions or problems, contact me via email at ww1y@arrl.net.

Version 2.4 soon to be released.

Within the next month or so, VEWD version 2.4 will be available. When released it will be available here at http://www.n1fd.org/vewd/vewd.html.

It will include all the changes in the unreleased Version 2.3 (mainly Y2K fixes) and will provide support for the new NCVEC form 605. A conversion program will also be available to convert your version 2.2 database files to the new format (required to include TIN).

Sorry it hasn't been available before this, but as soon as it's finished it will be posted.

Any questions, contact me via email at ww1y@arrl.net.

            Problem in Version 2.2 distribution

The initial distribution of Version 2.2 was missing a support application CSRT.EXE. This program is used to sort the various database files. It is called from VEWD when explicitly sorting, and when a "Print Candidate Roster" or "Print Test Session Summary" is performed.

            The two visible symptoms are:

            • The display scrolling upwards a line or two and becoming garbled after a "Print Candidate Roster" or "Print Test Session Summary". This is the "Bad Command or Filename" message from the DOS Shell.
            • The Test Session Summary Attending VE list can be incorrect. Errors include not listing all VE's and numbering errors.
The solution is to download the missing file, located at CSRT.ZIP (65KB), and unzip it into the VEWD directory.
